An unusual, anachronistic yet immensely popular work, this secular cantata blends spirituality with earthly concerns: luck, the return of spring, lust, the pleasures of drink and gambling... The music, which film borrowed more than once, loses none of its intensity in this version for pianos and percussion ensemble.
