This castle from the 16th and 17th centuries consists of three wings surrounding a courtyard that opens to the west onto the Cour aux Canons. Located in Torigni-sur-Vire, former stronghold of two descendants of William the Conqueror, this very beautiful residence belonged for more than three centuries to the famous Matignon family. It was severely damaged during the Revolution. Only the south wing, flanked to the west by an armorial pavilion from 1962, survived the post-revolutionary degradation. Purchased by the municipality in 1817, the latter built, around 1840, the east pavilion to restore a balance broken during the demolitions. On June 12, 1944, the center of Torigni was bombed and only the four walls of the castle remained. Successive municipalities have worked to restore its former glory, which, although not comparable to that of the past, gives this Historic Monument an imposing appearance.
