Cassini's map of France. An encyclopedia of the territory
From October 14, 2026 to February 1, 2027, at Le Musée des Archives nationales – L’Hôtel de Soubise : Cassini's map of France. An encyclopedia of the territory (histoire).
A cartographic masterpiece of the 18th century, Cassini's map of France is the first map of France surveyed geometrically at the scale of an entire country. An emblematic historical document made up of 181 sheets, it is also a monumental art object, eleven meters wide by twelve meters high. Drawing in particular on a major transfer from the IGN to the National Archives, the exhibition retraces the map's history in a new light.
