La petite expo #8 : le métal raconte l'histoire
From September 19, 2026 to September 20, 2026, at Musée de Normandie : La petite expo #8 : le métal raconte l'histoire (sciences).
The Musée de la Société des antiquaires de Normandie, damaged in 1944, held significant numismatic collections. In 1983, these were transferred to the Musée de Normandie in Caen under a permanent deposit agreement to preserve the collections. Over 8,000 coins and medals have been preserved, but the main damage from the bombings was the loss of the documentation related to them. Harvesting and inventory work was carried out at the museum with the help of numismatists from CRAHAM - Université Caen. This work makes it possible to assess the wealth of a collection built up through donations or exchanges, but also through archaeological research or a sensible acquisition policy. By tracing the circulation of money, it offers a journey through time and space, in Normandie and across Europe.
