Rêves de Valse
From March 7, 2027 to March 7, 2027, at Théâtre de Champagne : Rêves de Valse (opéra).
Rêve de Valse is an operetta by Oscar Straus telling the story of a French officer, Maurice de Fonségur, who kisses Princess Hélène de Snobie by mistake. To avoid scandal, he must marry her. Maurice, who prefers the gaiety and charm of Paris, looks for a way out of the wedding. He decides to slip away from the palace to hear the women musicians of the ravishing Franzi, and a tender romance blossoms between the two young people. That romance is soon interrupted by the arrival of all the dignitaries of the Court, who find in music a gentle consolation for the young couple. This operetta is the eighth lyric work by Oscar Straus, but until then our composer had devoted himself mainly to opera, opéra-comique, or satirical operetta. The enormous success of Lehár's The Merry Widow, premiered in 1906, prompted him to turn to the Viennese style. All that remained was to find a good subject.
